Kazakhstan plans to launch a government service that will allow users to check whether their personal data has been exposed following data leaks.
Mazhilis deputy Yekaterina Smyshlyayeva announced the new tool. The service is being developed as part of the country’s digital security law.
Through the platform, users will be able to check whether their IIN, phone number, address and other personal data have been compromised. If a leak is confirmed, the service will help users respond faster by changing passwords, restricting access to accounts or blocking bank cards.
Personal data in public documents to be hidden
Authorities also plan to strengthen the protection of personal data in public sources. Court decisions, public procurement materials and other documents may begin using masking and hashing technologies to hide sensitive user information.
Penalties for data leaks may increase
At the same time, Kazakhstan is discussing stricter liability for companies responsible for массовые data leaks. Fines may increase up to 5,000 MCI. In some cases, the introduction of criminal liability is also being considered.
In addition, the Ministry of Digital Development proposes restricting the mass export of data from state databases. Officials believe this could reduce the risk of unlawful distribution of citizens’ personal information.
