A new supercomputer will be launched near Astana in November 2026. The announcement was made by Kazakhtelecom CEO Bagdat Mussin during a government meeting.
The system will be located in Kosshy and is expected to be about three times more powerful than the existing facility in Almaty.
Existing system already at full capacity
In October 2025, Kazakhstan launched the AI-Farabium supercomputer in Almaty with a performance of around 1.5 thousand petaflops. It currently ranks 103rd globally.
According to Mussin, the system is already operating at full capacity.
Data center infrastructure is expanding
Kazakhtelecom operates the largest data center network in the country, including:
• more than 1,700 server racks
• around 25 MW of capacity
• a 47% market share
The company has also been appointed as the operator of the Data Center Valley project in Ekibastuz. Negotiations are currently underway with more than 20 hyperscale companies, with preliminary demand exceeding 100 MW.
The growth in computing capacity is expected to accelerate the adoption of AI across industries, from public services to business.
In practical terms, this means building the infrastructure needed to run digital services and AI solutions locally.
